The Bruce Rippeteau Faculty Excellence Award
The Bruce Rippeteau Faculty Excellence Award recognizes a faculty member appointed in the School of Global Integrative Studies for outstanding contributions to research and teaching in archaeology or cultural historical preservation in the Americas.
Bruce Rippeteau was an archaeologist and prehistorian. His career included posts at the State University of New York, the State of Colorado, as the Vice President of Powers Elevation, an oil and gas exploration company, and as the Director of the South Carolina Institute for Archaeology. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1968, followed by a Master’s degree from the University of Arizona and a Doctorate from Case Western University.
Bruce is remembered fondly for his passion for archaeology, his sense of adventure, his energy and exuberance, mentorship of students, his questing mind, and his role connecting colleagues within and beyond the University. He helped create UNL’s Anthrogroup, and held leadership positions in the Rotary Club, the Society for American Archaeology, and the Association of the US Army.
