Lee-Ann Sims

Global Studies alumna Lee-Ann Sims has been awarded the Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Kazakhstan.  The ETA Programs place Fulbrighters in classrooms abroad to provide assistance to the local English teachers. ETAs help teach the English language while serving as cultural ambassadors for the U.S.

Ms. Sims is from Lincoln, Nebraska and is a 2018 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a major in global studies and minors in Spanish and Political Science. She spent much of her undergraduate career interning at the Nebraska State Capitol as a Legislative Page and volunteering as an English Language Learner Teacher in her community. Sims is currently serving as a City Year AmeriCorps member in Washington, DC where she mentors and tutors at an under-resourced elementary school. Sims has been selected as a finalist for the Fulbright award and in January she will move to Kazakhstan to work as an English Language teacher and serve as a cultural ambassador.  Ms. Sims is also a finalist for the Charles B. Rangel Graduate Fellowship, a program that aims to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State in which they can help formulate, represent and implement U.S. foreign policy.

The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program and is designed to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The Fulbright Program is funded through an annual appropriation made by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. Department of State. Participating governments and host institutions, corporations, and foundations around the world also provide direct and indirect support to the Program, which operates in over 160 countries worldwide.
