Climatologist Ken Dewey has been appointed chair of the American Meteorological Society's newly-created Board on Outreach and Informal Education, which will bring weather and science information to the public.
Dewey was selected based on his role in UNL Weatherfest, the annual summer weather camp for high school students, and his "weather in the classroom" school visits, as well as his 2018 National Public Education Award that he received from the National Weather Association.
"I believe it is not only a message about the importance of public outreach and public education but also a recognition of the strong programs we have at Nebraska that they would reach out to me," he said.
