Carrie Heitman has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Bruce and Sandra Rippeteau Award for Faculty Excellence, recognizing her remarkable contributions to archaeology and digital heritage, and her pioneering research on the American Southwest and North American archaeology.
"Her dedication and innovative scholarship have had a profound, lasting impact on the academic community and beyond," Sophia Perdikaris, professor in and director of the School of Global Integrative Studies (SGIS), said. "Dr. Heitman’s work exemplifies the qualities this award seeks to honor—scholarship, advocacy, and an unwavering commitment to community engagement. Her dedication to excellence is inspiring, making her an exemplary model in American Archaeology and a powerful influence on her students.

SGIS also want to express sincere gratitude to Sandra Rippeteau, who, following the passing of her husband Bruce, has continued to champion his legacy and commitment to fostering academic excellence. Her support has made this recognition possible and will undoubtedly inspire future generations of scholars.
Heitman will be recognized on December 6 at 3:00 p.m. in the Rippeteau Lounge. Sandra Rippeteau will present the award.
