Heather Richards-Rissetto, assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology, has received a grant and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities for two digital humanities projects.
Richards-Rissetto received a fellowship for her project, "A 3D Exploration of Vision, Sound, and Movement in the Ancient Maya City of Copan," which is preparation of a digital publication with three-dimensional reconstructions and immersive virtual reality experiences of the Mayan city Copan, an archaeological site in Honduras dating from the 5th to 9th centuries CE.
The Digital Humanities Advancement Grant is for "Revitalizing and Enhancing the Open Source 3D WebGIS of the MayaArch3D Project," to plan for the revitalization of the MayaArch3D project and documentation for using 3D WebGIS data in digital scholarship. These types of grants support the implementation of innovative digital humanities projects that have successfully completed a start-up phase and demonstrated their value to the field.
Richards-Rissetto is an archaeologist specializing in the ancient Maya of Central America and a faculty fellow in the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities.
