"American Creativity Continued: 1870s to 1970s," a student-curated quilt exhibition at the International Quilt Museum, opens Sept. 18 at 5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The exhibition is the culmination of work competed by students in "ANTH 492/892: Stitching Culture: U.S.-Japan Quilt Exhibit Collaborative", an intensive, collaborative course bringing together University of Nebraska–Lincoln students, students and faculty from Saitama University in Japan, and colleagues at the museum. Over the past several weeks, students have examined quilts, developed interpretive materials, and thought about how museums use objects and exhibitions to tell stories across cultures. The course is led by Emira Ibrahimpašić, associate professor of practice in the School of Global Integrative Studies and assistant director of the Global Studies program.
Friday’s opening will include an International Textiles Show-and-Tell and a Q&A with the student curators.
