Why Anthropology?
I'm studying anthro because it seems the most interesting to me. I love learning about artifacts and culture/religion so it seemed like the right match for me. The most interesting class that I have taken so far is Lithics and that allowed me to try flint knapping which I am extremely bad at. My suggestion for new/other majors is to focus on what you love doing and what interests you the most, you'll enjoy everything better that way. You should consider anthro because it truly broadens your mind on our world history as well as how we got to where we are today. You also meet the coolest people.
Extracurricular Experiences:
I got to experience a field school in Boulder, Utah my junior year. I was able to meet new friends from different states and get to gain hands on experience for my future career. Camping for a month in the bottom of a canyon with a group of people is a life changing experience and reinforced my mindset on my future career. I also got to dig a 6 foot sand pit in the hot sun and that changes a person. The strangest thing that happened to us was being invited to a barn party by the hipster locals.
What is your favorite book and why?
My favorite book is Percy Jackson as I feel that may have jump started my passion for religion in an odd way.
What is your favorite movie and why?
I love Baby Driver because I doesn't like to see cool action set to good music. My second favorite is Phantom of the Opera.
Post Graduation Plans:
I plan on going to grad school after taking either a half or full year off. I want to gain more hands on experience in curation and field work but also have the chance to travel more and create more connections.
