MA in Geography, Western Michigan University BS in History and Geography, Central Michigan University Jonathan Wessell is an instructor of Geography for the past 27 years. He is currently at Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville, Michigan. Mr. Wessell has been actively involved over the past 16 years with the AAG and served his colleagues for a decade in the Geography Education Specialty Group on the executive committee. He was active in starting a poster competition and advanced the connection with AP Human Geography teachers by providing a day long PD opportunity twice during the AAG Annual Meetings. For several years he has remained active in chairing sessions on professional development in Geography and Experiential Learning in Geography. These activities have led Mr. Wessell to being the editor of two books with his colleagues on Experiential Learning in Geography. Mr. Wessell has also served as a reviewer for the journals: Professional Geographer and The Geography Teacher. He has served as a reviewer for grants at the National Academy of Science. He is an NCGE Board Member and serves on the NCGE Annual Mtg. planning committee. Mr. Wessell is a PhD student and University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he is conducting research on experiential learning. His passion for this research has taken him to the UK and Spain where he has conducted interviews to examine the ways in which experiential learning is conducted at four universities. His second study will be with social studies teachers and their ability to share their experiential learning experiences in their classrooms. When Jon completes his PhD, he plans to work at a research institution and mentor students, as they do research, write, and move on in their careers.
