Shari Albaugh’s academic journey has been guided by a deep curiosity about how people, places, and environments shape one another. She earned both her bachelor's degree in general studies with a concentration in Geography and her Master of Science in Geography at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. During her master’s program, she completed a thesis titled “Sheelytown, Nebraska: The Erasure of an Ethnic Enclave,” a project that explored the historical forces that reshape communities and the narratives that are often lost in the process.

Her research has continued to build on these themes, spanning GIS analysis, population studies, human–environment relationships, and the legacy of urban redlining. Together, these interests reflect her commitment to understanding how spatial patterns and social histories intersect to influence lived experience.

Now pursuing her PhD in Global Integrative Studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Shari is expanding her geographic focus through interdisciplinary research that connects local histories to broader global systems. She hopes to carry this work forward into a future role as an assistant professor, where she can contribute to both scholarship and teaching while helping students discover the power and relevance of geographic thinking.
