Global Cafe
A monthly, public event hosted by Global Studies. We pair coffee and snacks with discussions of international issues such as careers in diplomacy, human rights, current issues, and volunteer and internship opportunities. Students are encouraged to discuss their perspectives while hearing views and experiences of peers from around the world. More information about Global Cafe.
Geography Awareness Week
The Graduate Student Organization sponsors Geography Awareness Week each year. The week-long activities are part of a campaign by the National Council for Geographic Education to share the importance of geography.
Steve Lavin Memorial Seminar
An annual event to honor the memory of geography professor Steve Lavin, a specialist in cartography who studied how to improve the ways maps convey information. He spent three decades in the geography program, several of those years as the chair. Michael Peterson, Michael Forsberg, and J. Clark Archer have spoken at the event.
Colloquium Series
A set of lectures featuring top scholars from each of the fields within SGIS. Each semester, the lectures are centered around a theme. For the fall 2020 semester, the theme was Engaging Human Rights: Humanity on the Edge.
