This fall, students in the five-week experiential learning course, "Anthropology 492: Stitching Culture: U.S. - Japan Quilt Exhibit Collaborative," collaborated internationally to curate an all-new quilt exhibit. The work will be displayed at the International Quilt Museum (IQM) starting September 20 in the Pumphrey Gallery and will remain open to the public through March 2025.
The class and the collaboration is the result of a global cooperation between the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Japan's Saitama University. This hands-on class gives students an opportunity to work in a world-class museum, learning how to think about and prepare for a museum exhibition, conduct research, write labels, and select, mount, and care for objects. Students also work alongside and learn from experts in the field and gain valuable experience that can translate to a career in museum work.
Open to all majors, the course is scheduled to take place again in the fall of 2025.
