Majors and minors while at UNL:
I graduated in May 2020 and majored in Global Studies with a minor in French.
What were some of you favorite memories of being at UNL and majoring in Global Studies?
I think it goes without saying that most students who major in Global Studies end up having their study abroad as their favorite memory! Majoring in Global Studies gave me the opportunity to spend a Summer in Morocco that quite literally transformed my outlook on life and the goals I wanted to accomplish in the future. It helped me understand how important it is to understand other cultures, speak different languages, and comprehend other societies. But, when I was on campus, I really enjoyed the community that came along with the department and courses specifically geared towards my interest such as Women in the Quran and The Environment and French Speaking World.
On and off campus involvement:
I studied abroad in Morocco the Summer of 2019 and also got to do some pretty amazing internships such as UNL's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, where I met the amazing and most helpful Brianne Wolf, UNL Programs in English as a Second Language, and as a legislative intern for Senator Megan Hunt.
What have you been up to since graduation?
In 2021, I moved to Bordeaux, France to be a part of an English teaching assistant program (TAPIF) that was initially contracted for 7-8 months. I had fully planned on returning to the U.S. and continuing my education, but I fell in love and stayed!
I stayed in Bordeaux teaching English for another year, nannied part time, and took French courses. Then, I started my Masters in International Relations at Sciences Po Bordeaux where only the first year was required to complete in the country.
With that said, I recently completed an exchange semester in Taiwan! From August 2025 to January 2026, I was in Taipei at National Taiwan University where I studied Cross-Strait Relations and learned a bit of Chinese. I have been able to continue my higher education thanks to Rotary International and Rotary District 5650 for awarding me with the Global Grant Scholar award. This award is specifically for applicants who are interested in continuing education outside of the U.S and whose studies align with the objectives of the organization.
Since I got back from Taiwan, I moved to Paris where I am now interning at UNESCO while writing my thesis for my Masters program.
What is your advice for current global studies majors who aren’t quite sure what to do after they graduate?
Take your time and appreciate these moments! It is definitely easier said than done, but I remember trying to always figure out what to do next and essentially trying to plan my life years in advance and in the end...I didn't end up doing what I thought I was going to do and I don't regret it one bit! I took some time to really figure out what I want and I'm really happy with the current results.
What are your plans for the future?
As of now, I plan on completing some research for my thesis and finish my Masters! I plan to stay in Paris and continue my journey here.
