Congratulations to Dr. Carrie Heitman, who has been awarded a “Humanities Without Walls” grant to support her pilot study “Ohio Hopewell: Prehistoric Crossroads of the American Midwest.” This funding comes through UNL’s Center for Digital Research in the Humanities from the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This particular initiative is intended to promote collaborations around the “Grand Challenge: Global Midwest.” Dr. Heitman and collaborators at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Field Museum and Northwestern University, propose to create a digital resource devoted to the Hopewell Culture, which will promote new understanding of peoples inhabiting and convening ceremonies in the American Midwest over a 2,000 year period.
