Olathe, KS

Why did you select your major(s) and minor(s)? Were there any experiences that convinced you to declare?

I originally came to Nebraska in search of a Meteorology degree, but found that I loved working more with mapping and big data so I switched to Geography to pursue Cartography. I had always loved Geography, as in grade school I memorized hundreds of facts about each State.

What is your favorite course you have taken from your programs?

My favorite course would be Dr. Shepard's Cartography I. I was in his inaugural class and learned a lot about how easily data can be skewed per each map. It made me look more carefully at each map I come across the internet, and be more interested in the metadata.

Who have been some of your strongest mentors or role models here?

Dr. Shepard and Dr. Buller have both been big role models for my geography career. Dr. Shepard helped me prepare for my job interview, which I got, and Dr. Buller inspired me to pursue cultural geography when I go back to grad school.

Have you had an internship/job?
I've been working at the High Plains Regional Climate Center since my freshman year. My focus at the HPRCC has been working with climate data and testing the new GIS products the center developed in 2019.

What are you involved in on campus?
I am a member of the American Meteorological Society and the founder of the FIRST Robotics Nebraska alumni club.

What are your plans after graduation?

I am moving back to my hometown to start work as a Cartography Technician for Garmin International. I'm also getting married to my best friend in the next year and look forward to travelling after this pandemic.
